HYALURONIC ACID
(HA) FILLER

PATIENT FAQ FORM

  • Patients who desire immediate improved facial appearance without having to undergo surgery. Concerns that can be addressed include full facial contouring & balancing, mid-face volume loss, full facial contouring & balancing, enhanced cheekbones, under-eye hollowness, and smile lines. Older clientele may wish to restore volume they once saw in their youth, while younger clientele usually desire angular results.

  • Safety is KMA's top priority, there are cases when filler is not a suitable treatment option, and patients may be referred to a specialist or provided an alternative to achieve the desired outcome.

    It is important to not receive HA Filler if you:

    • Are currently treating an active infection with antibiotics.

    • Are allergic to gram-positive bacterial proteins used to make hyaluronic acid (HA) or mannitol.

    • Are allergic to numbing agents such as lidocaine or benzocaine.

    • Are prone to bleeding or have a bleeding disorder.

    • Have an active skin lesion in or around the area(s) being treated.

    • Are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • Common treatment areas include:

    • Under Eye Rejuvenation - for under eye hollowness, filler works to add volume for a less "tired" appearance

    • Cheek Contouring - to restore facial balance and create angular definition and highlights

    • Smile/Frown Lines - to smooth out the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth

    • Chin & Chin Shadow - to enhance and balance the facial profile

    • Lips - for natural hydration or fullness

    • Jawline - to enhance the side profile, providing an angular and sharpened appearance

    • Other areas include: hands, above knees, neck

  • At your appointment, your natural anatomy and desired goals will be discussed with your Injector. The treatment will be explained including treatment area(s), product choice, # of syringes, potential side effects, and aftercare. A medical history will be captured including current medications, allergies, medical history, and "before" photographs. The treatment will vary from 30-90 minutes.

  • HA Fillers treatments are done using a tiny needle or cannula. Some fillers have numbing agents within the products. In some cases, a topical numbing cream may be applied. Clients have reported minimal discomfort at most.

  • Before your appointment, please:

    • Arrive without makeup.

    • Avoid blood-thinning products such as Aspirin, Advil, alcohol, and smoking (marijuana & tobacco).

    • Be sure to eat before arriving.

  • You may experience some swelling, bruising, redness and mild tenderness depending on the area of the face treated. Swelling can last up to 7 days after your injectable treatment.

  • For the best results:

    • Do not smoke, or consume alcohol, ASA, Advil, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, or blood-thinning medication for 24h post-injection time. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is acceptable.

    • Do not exercise vigorously for 24 hours post-injection time.

    • Swelling, bruising, and mild soreness are normal reactions. Ice the area intermittently & apply Arnica cream.

    • Avoid using makeup products for 24h post-injection time to minimize the risk of infection.

    • Do not receive any other facial treatment for 14 days after your treatment.

    • Do not apply pressure to the treatment area for 7-10 days, it is recommended to sleep on your back.

  • Treatments are meant to last 6-9 months. However, due to everyone’s individual anatomy, some clients may not need any touch-ups for up to 18 months.

  • Swelling, bruising, redness, and slight tenderness are all normal side effects. These symptoms usually resolve within a few days. It is recommended to book your injection appointment at least 5 days before any special occasion.

  • Although rare, the risk of vascular occlusion is always present in any HA Filler treatment. If you experience extreme pain or blanching (white spots/blotches), bruising that spreads, or any sign of an allergic reaction, contact your Injector immediately.

  • Results are best maintained in a healthy and well-hydrated individual. Regularly drinking water and avoiding long-term compression on your face will keep your filler intact. Follow-up appointments are advised within a 6-9 month period for most clients.

  • HA Filler can be dissolved with the use of Hyaluronidase. This is an injection treatment performed in the clinic. Alternatively, clients can wait until their HA Filler naturally dissolves.

NEUROTOXIN

PATIENT FAQ FORM

  • Neurotoxin treatments are perfect for those who want to soften lines and wrinkles on their face or who want to prevent lines and wrinkles. It can also benefit those who desire facial slimming.

  • Although most clients are neurotoxin candidates, it is important to not receive injections if you:

    • Are currently treating an active infection with antibiotics.

    • Have an anaphylaxis allergy to cow’s milk (may receive Botox® only).

    • Are prone to bleeding or have a bleeding disorder.

    • Have an active skin lesion in or around the area(s) being treated.

    • Are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • Common treatment areas include:

    • Forehead - to smooth the horizontal lines visible when the eyebrows are raised (or at rest).

    • Between the Eyebrows - to minimize the "11" lines, also known as frown lines.

    • Crows Feet - to smooth out the lines around the eyes that show when smiling, laughing, and talking.

    • Bunny Lines on Nose - the lines that appear on the nose when the face is scrunched up.

    • Chin Dimpling - to smooth out the ‘orange peel’ chin that shows when making a kiss face or exaggerated sad face.

    • Smokers/Lipstick Lines - pesky lip lines around the mouth (not always caused by smoking).

    • Neck Bands (Nefertiti neck lift) - to lift the jowls and show a smoother neck when straining.

    • Wide Jaw - to slim the face creating a more angular appearance.

    • Underarms, Palms, & Feet - to minimize excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) not necessarily related to heat or exercise.

  • The above brands of neurotoxins are all approved in Canada. Botox® comes with a higher price point and a longer time of onset at 10-14 days. Dysport® has been used for decades with a more affordable price and a quicker onset time of 7-10 days. Individuals that have an anaphylactic milk allergy cannot use this product. Xeomin® can be used for non-responders to other neurotoxins (those who have been using neurotoxins for a long time) or for younger patients whose goals are preventative.

  • At your appointment, your natural anatomy and desired goals will be discussed with your Injector. The treatment will be explained including treatment area(s), product choice, # of units, potential side effects, and aftercare. A medical history will be captured including current medications, allergies, medical history, and "before" photographs. The treatment will vary from 20-50 minutes. Expect up to 14 days to see your treatment results.

  • Botulinum toxin treatments are done using tiny insulin needles. Clients have reported minimal discomfort at most.

  • Before your appointment, there are a few things you can do:

    • Arrive without makeup.

    • Avoid blood-thinning products such as Aspirin, Advil, alcohol, and smoking (marijuana & tobacco).

    • Be sure to eat before arriving to ensure you have lots of energy!

  • Depending on the area of the face treated, you may experience some swelling. Anticipate the majority of your swelling to last for up to 7 days after your injectable treatment. You should also expect some bruising, redness, and mild tenderness following the treatment. After 24 hours you are able to return to most activities.

  • For the best results:

    • Remain upright for 4h post-injection time. No laying down flat or bending over for long periods (ex. laundry, gardening).

    • Do not smoke, or consume alcohol, ASA, Advil, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, or blood-thinning medication for 24h post-injection time. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is acceptable.

    • Do not exercise vigorously for 24 hours post-injection time.

  • Although rare, the risk of asymmetry or a drooping eyelid/brow is always present in any neurotoxin treatment. If you experience one of these side effects, contact your Injector directly. Although some side effects cannot be corrected, no treatment is permanent and the side effects tend to dissipate after 4 weeks.

  • Results are best maintained in a healthy and well-hydrated individual. Regularly drinking water, avoiding long-term compression on your face, and avoiding exaggerated facial expressions to prolong effects. Follow-up appointments are advised within the 3-4 month mark for most clients.

  • Fortunately, most clients are 100% satisfied with their results after treatment. Unfortunately, for those who may not like their results the only way to rid of them is with time. All neurotoxin results will diminish by 3-6 months after the initial injection.

    • The micro-dermabrasion tip works by removing the uppermost superficial layers of the dead skin cells from the face, neck, chest and hands, this will create favorable conditions for serum absorption.     • The intensity of the procedure can be adjusted to your desired results and comfort level.

    • The medium frequency electromechanical stimulation uses a water droplet-shaped handpiece that provides a kneading type massage. This will increase blood circulation, skin regeneration, muscle relaxation and waste excretion, providing a lifting effect of the skin.

    • Hydrogen water, also known as H2 Therapy, will provide an antioxidant effect, to help reduce inflammation by eliminating free radicals.

  • 3-5 treatments spaced 1 month apart are recommended, then maintenance as needed.
